A sold-out Saxton Oval was treated to an action-packed afternoon of T20 cricket with the BLACKCAPS claiming a convincing 47-run victory over West Indies.

21-year-old wicket-keeper-batsman Glenn Phillips was the toast of Nelson after scoring a maiden half-century and claiming four dismissals, including an incredible diving catch to dismiss Chris Gayle.

The series now moves to Mount Maunganui for the final two T20s on the 1st and 3rd of December. 

Cool Heads
The West Indies seized the early advantage after collecting the big wicket of Martin Guptill and initially tying down Phillips. At the other end Colin Munro (53 off 37) showed all his class and experience to keep the scoreboard ticking and take the pressure of his young partner. The pair’s 86-run stand was the backbone of the BLACKCAPS 187-run total.

Mitchell Santner (23* off 11) and Tim Southee entered the final over of the innings with the scoreboard looking a little light at 158-7. Kesrick Williams then had an over to forget as he delivered four no-balls and leaked 29 runs to see the momentum swing. It didn't swing back...
