The BLACKCAPS again proved too strong for the West Indies, charging to a 67-run (DLS) victory in the rain-affected Boxing Day One-Dayer at Hagley Oval.

Scorecard

Chasing 166 to win the third and final ODI in 23-overs, the visitor’s lost their first five wickets for just nine runs, the equal third fewest in ODI history.

Early Fire
The West Indies bowlers made early in-roads but failed to capitalise. With thick cloud cover above and some moisture in the air they reduced the host’s to 26-3 before Ross Taylor and Tom Latham rebuilt the innings.

Late BOOM
Resuming after a long-rain delay, the BLACKCAPS were given four overs to have a hit. And hit they did, banging 48 runs in the 24 balls as Taylor (47*) and Henry Nicholls (18* off 9) found the rope and a competitive total.

Bowling Blitzkrieg
As they did in the second ODI, the BLACKCAPS bowlers came out and more than backed up the batsmen. Matt Henry and Trent Boult did the early damage as the ball swung around and the Windies had few answers. The ball that got Jason Mohammed for a duck was a CORKER-YORKER!

Astle and Santner
Spinners Todd Astle and Mitchell Santner came on with the game all but done. They did more than close the game out. They bowled smartly and sneakily at times to help subdue the Windies tail. A great return to the BCs for Santa's Little Helper and an excellent finish to a great series from Toddy!
