Defending Champions on the Board

The State Canterbury Magicians only managed 119 after being put into bat in their Twenty20 match against the State Otago Sparks at QEII Park in Christchurch.  It proved to be enough as Otago only managed 74 in replay.  Amber Boyce top scored for Canterbury with 31 off 28 balls.  The wickets were shared by the Sparks bowlers with Suzannah Bates, Tessa Bates and Tanya Morrison picking up two apiece.  But it was the accurate Wizards bowlers who won the game.  Sarah Burke returned particularly impressive figures of nine for one off her four overs.  This win puts Canterbury on the board and gives them some hope of defending their title.
