Devine and Ruck dominate Canterbury

Wellington Blaze strike bowlers Sophie Devine and Sian Ruck ripped through the Canterbury Magicians line up to set up a dominant nine wicket win in their opening one-day match at Redwood Park in Christchurch.

The Magicians struggled throughout their inning with only two players registering double figure scores.  Number seven batsman Erin Bermingham and number nine batsman Sarah Burke both made 17.

Devine was the chief destroyer taking five for 15 with Ruck picking up four for 12.

It was a comfortable run chase for the Blaze with opener Sarah Bradbury hitting 29, Kerry-Anne Tomlinson 19 not out with extras accounting for 21 of the 70 runs required.

It is a poor start to the season for the defending champions who were soundly beaten yesterday in the Twenty20 by the same team.
