Devine blasts 99 to set up big win

Wellington Blaze all-rounder Sophie Devine was in imperious form with the bat against Northern Spirit, belting five sixes and nine fours on the way to an unbeaten 99 of 53 balls.

Wellington's 181 for three proved too much for Northern, who battled to 133 for eight in their 20 overs to give Wellington a first-up 48 run victory in the Action Twenty20 at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

The superb knock by Devine overshadowed a decent 48 off 43 deliveries by Megan Wakefield.

Spirit’s best batsman was Nic Browne with a solid 42 off 39 balls but the formidable overwhelmed the rest of the line up.

Sian Ruck was the most impressive of the Blaze bowlers, taking 2-13 of her four overs.

Devine also picked up 2-21 with the ball, and combined with Wellington wicketkeeper Lucy Doolan to run out Northern captain Nicola Brown in the 16th over for 42.
