Hamilton Boys’ High School and Christchurch Boys’ High School played their eagerly anticipated first Secondary School Boys’ First XI Cup match on Lincoln Green, where Hamilton Boys’ batted first and reached an impressive 232/9.
There were strong contributions with the bat throughout the Hamilton innings, opener Matti Clarke scored 58 runs, number four batsmen Jamie Moore top-scoring with a great knock of 73 and, lower down the order, Cooper Rowell finishing the innings strongly with an unbeaten 35.
Fraser Sheat had meanwhile a great day with the ball for Christchurch Boys’, ending with 4-22, while Jack Turner also bowled well to pick up 3-19.
In reply, Christchurch Boys’ captain Matthew Hay led superbly, hitting a blistering 81 runs off 56 balls to put his side in control for the chase.
There were contributions all round from the Christchurch Boys’ batsmen, despite good bowling from Stephen Sistern-Tate (3-47) and Brayden Gaylor (2-32).
Christchurch Boys’ ended with a relatively comfortable four-wicket win.
