ROUND FIVE
WELLINGTON BLAZE defeated NORTHERN SPIRIT
by 9 wickets at St Paul's Collegiate
8 December 2018
Having entered the midway point of the competition with just one win from four rounds, Wellington Blaze urgently needed to get some traction on the points table. They did it thanks to winless Northern Spirit whose hopes of getting off the mark were quickly sunk in the Saturday round.
Sent in and bowled out for 147, only former Blaze stalwart turned Spirit newbie Eimear Richardson succeeded against her old comrades with a knock of 32 off just 24 balls.
Amelia Kerr and Beth Molony both picked up braces while Alex Evans and Deanna Doughty took three-fors, Doughty quickly mopping up the tail after stopping Richardson's brief burst of firepower.
The tally was never going to threaten the Blaze who chased it down in little more than 23 overs, Rebecca Burns blasting an unbeaten 72 and Lucy Doolan the only wicket to fall after reaching her half century.
