Knights march on thanks to McGlashan

A trio of Northern Knights peppered the Basin Reserve boundary as the Wellington Firebirds were crushed by 54 runs in a HRV Cup match here today.

A third consecutive Northern Knights win came courtesy of ferocious innings from wicketkeeper Peter McGlashan, 66, opener Brad Hodge, 51 and Anton Devcich, 48, all at considerably faster than a run-a-ball as the visitors built an imposing 201 for six.

Bradley Scott and Brent Arnel were then impressive with the ball as the Firebirds stumbled to 147, dismissed on the penultimate ball of a run chase that never threatened after New Zealand opener Jesse Ryder, returning from injury, fell for four off nine balls.

Ryder didn't bowl in the Knights' innings and it's unlikely he could have done much to stymie McGlashan, in particular, who powered to 66 off 31 balls before being run out in the final act of the innings.

McGlashan, Hodge and Devcich carted 17 fours and seven sixes between them.
