Mags machine kicks into gear

Even without superstar Amy Satterthwaite in their midst for this one, the Canterbury Magicians easily completed back-to-back wins over the Central Hinds in round six of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield in Lincoln.

It was frustration for the young Hinds side who got their chase off to a good start — Rebecca Burns falling just two shy of a half ton and young newbie Emily Cunningham gaining valuable confidence from her 21 in an opening stand worth 96 runs.

They were chasing, and putting a good dent in, the Mags’ 260 for four, but the picture turned less rosy for the visitors as their next seven wickets fell away for just 32 runs.

Earlier, former WHITE FERNS Kate Ebrahim (83) and Erin Bermingham (78) had got the Mags into a solid position with a 148-run stand for the third wicket, while leggie Bermingham also went on to claim 3-16 with the ball.

Captain Frances Mackay claimed the bowling honours on the day, however, with a superb 4-22 off her nine overs, Melissa Hansen left stranded on an unbeaten 43 in the 64-run win for the Mags.
