Bay of Plenty teenager Nensi Patel continued her good form in this summer's Hallyburton Johnstone Shield as the action resumed in Hamilton today, with the spinning allrounder grabbing her maiden five-wicket bag for ND.
After the exodus of the WHITE FERNS ahead of the World Cup, all teams had a fresh look and new captains as the competition recommenced for 2022, with Eimear Richardson leading ND and Laura Hughes stepping up for Canterbury.

Hughes won the toss and batted, but it was an away match that simply did not go to plan for the defending champions with ND ultimately winning comfortably.
Both sides had a debutante in the mix with Izzy Sharp debuting for the Magicians and Carol Agafili on debut for ND, enjoying a hard-fought contest as the Magicians posted 229/8 in their 50.

Abigale Gerken top-scored with 49 at the top before becoming the first of Patel's five victims at 79/2.
She had shared a 65-run opening stand with Emma Kench but from there the Magicians were forced to string together middling partnerships as Patel (5-46) kept on breaking through, with help from captain Richardson (2-46).
Debutante Sharp got off the mark and contributed 28 before becoming Patel's fourth wicket.
In reply, ND made a strong start with the bat, chasing 230.
Kate Anderson (46) and Caitlin Gurrey (58) put on a quick 81 in just 15 overs before Sarah Asmussen denied Anderson her half century.
First drop Holly Topp then strode in and smacked 47, before Patel put the icing on a good all-round day with an unbeaten knock of 33, bringing the match home alongside Lucy Boucher with 9.1 overs to spare.
The win was ND's third on the bounce and put them firmly in the race for Grand FInal contention.

The other two HBJ matches due to be played today, between the Central Hinds and Auckland Hearts in New Plymouth, and between the Otago Sparks and Wellington Blaze in Oamaru, were both washed out without a toss made.
