Sparks ease to eight wicket win

Defending champions Central Hinds continued their poor start to the season, following on from yesterday's six-wicket Twenty20 loss to Otago in Invercargill.

Today, Otago strode to an eight-wicket win in the Action Women's one-day competition, losing only two wickets for their 126 in 18.5 overs after Central Hinds were all out for 125 in 37.3 overs.

An inability to establish any real partnerships cost the visitors dearly, and despite winning the toss they were 13 for three after just three overs.

White Fern Sara McGlashan and Irish international Eimar Richardson put on 53 for the fourth wicket, but once McGlashan departed for 34, the wickets again began to tumble.

Only Richardson, with 25, and Kate Broadmore's 31 off 48 added any respectability to the Central Districts innings.

For Otago, Susie Bates picked up 3-31 off her 10 overs while Natasha Miles and Sarah Tsukigawa picked up a brace apiece.

Otago didn't bother to take things easy in chasing such a modest tally, opener Katey Martin securing the win with a dashing 58 off 41 balls, including nine fours.
