Spirit hammer Hinds by 108 runs

Northern Spirit owe a debt of gratitude to two players in particular as they romped to a one-sided win over Central Hinds in an Action Cup women's one-day match at Palmerston North today.

The visitors secured their first points of the competition by sending the hosts packing by a margin of 108 runs at Fitzherbert Park.

Batting first, Northern compiled a challenging 222 all out, a healthy total built around a fine 84 off 101 balls by Anna Peterson, who was well supported by opener Krista Neilson, who played her part by making 56 off 78.

Medium pacer Brooke Kirkbride then fronted with the ball to decimate Central Districts, who were rolled for just 114 in less than 28 overs.

Only opener Rachel Priest, with 34, made any impression before Kirkbride took the final five wickets for a personal cost of 11 runs in just 3.4 overs.
