NZCT National Club Cricket Championship 2019
Cornwall Cricket Club, Auckland
2-7 April 2019
ROUND ONE
Napier Technical Old Boys defeated Greerton by 10 wickets
Napier Technical Old Boys have made a power start to their NZCT National Club Championship defence with a 10-wicket opening round win over Tauranga's Greerton that was over before the lunch dishes had been put away.
Bowling first on the Cornwall number one ground after a slightly delayed start (the ground draining well after the previous day's heavy rain), the “Texans” took advantage of early swing and ended up rolling Greerton for just 71 in 31.1 overs.
Captain Liam Rukuwai put himself on an early hat-trick that was averted by number four Brett Hampton before he, too, departed cheaply.
Morten Freer would also put himself on an unconverted hat-trick later on in the innings. With a top individual offering of just 18, Greerton was simply never in the contest.
Freer finished with 4-11 off his six overs and Rukuwai, Todd Watson and Jayden Lennox (2-6 off his 7.1 overs) each picked up a brace.
Opening batsmen Christian Leopard and Matt Edmondson were in no mood to waste time in the chase and bashed their way to the target in just 7.4 overs for a handsome start to the defence of their crown.
NTOB may be in for a tougher match tomorrow, however, when they meet competitive Eastern Suburbs on the number two ground. All matches are free admission and live-scored at nzc.nz
