The State Canterbury Magicians picked up their second win in as many
days against the State Auckland Hearts at Redwood Park in Christchurch.
Auckland put on 205 after winning the toss and deciding to bat. They
looked like posting a much hgher total but the weren’t able to
capitalise on a solid start given by Michelle Lynch at the top of the
order who struck 65.
Number three batsman Ros Kember made 46 with all rounder Megan Murphy reaching 39.
Canterbury Magicians opening bowler Beth McNeil was the main destroyer
taking four for 34, including three of the Hearts top four batsmen.
The Magicians reached their target in the 48th over, losing only four wickets.
Frankie Mackay opened the batting and got the Magicians off to a flyer,
making her first State League half century before being run out on 55.
Janet Brehaut also made her first half century and she guided her team
home with captain Haidee Tiffen. Tiffen was 43 not out and Brehaut 60
not out.
The win allows the State Canterbury Magicians to leap frog Central into
second place after nine rounds with the State Auckland Hearts in bottom
spot.
