Wellington beat Otago by three wickets

Wellington Firebirds picked up a three-wicket win over Otago Volts on the second-to-last ball of their innings in an HRV Cup match at Queenstown.

The victory left Otago winless in 10 matches, with Wellington second to bottom on the points table with three wins.

Sent in to bat, Otago made 147 for eight from their 20 overs, opener Aaron Redmond top-scoring with 50 off 37 balls.

For Wellington, Harry Boam picked up 2-16 from three overs while Jeetan Patel managed 2-26 off four.

Wellington's run chase was a little closer than they would have liked, but Brett Lee and Marc Calkin saw them home with a ball to spare.

Opener Neil Parlane headed the Wellington batting with 34 from 29, Grant Elliott's 29 and Luke Wright's 28 providing valuable middle-order support.

Otago struggled with the ball, the best figures returned by James McMillan with 2-20 of three overs and Aaron Redmond, who managed 2-15 off two.
