NZC National Men’s Under 19 Tournament
ROUND THREE | 6 December 2019
Lincoln No.3, Lincoln
Auckland U19 beat Wellington U19 by 3 wickets
A century to Wellington's Devan Vishvaka went unrewarded as leaders Auckland made it three from three at the Under-19 Nationals - and picked up another bonus point to edge into the outright lead.
Opening batsman Vishvaka's 106 off 137 balls looked to have Wellington on course for a good total after captain Jesse Tashkoff had won the toss and batted on Lincoln No.3, but he struggled for solid support later in the innings.
It started well. Vishvaka shared an 80-run stand with an anchoring Caleb Montague (36) at the top, the pair batting into the 24th over before Auckland's dangerous attack began to chip away some wickets.
Vishvaka came close to carrying his bat, still there in the 49th over before he was finally dismissed caught off Simon Keene. However, at 213 for six he had scored almost half his side's runs.
Wellington got up to 219 for seven in their 50 and it wasn't enough to stop the defending champions.
Keene and Conor Ansell shared an 84-run stand for the second wicket that took Auckland to 118/2.
Although Wellington managed to chop through the middle order quickly, the platform was built and an unbeaten 36* from Lucas Dasent and 29* from Adithya Ashok down the order saw the Auckanders get home with more than nine overs to spare.
