In Short
The WHITE FERNS made Australia sweat right to the end as they pursued 220 to win Sunday's ICC Women's World Cup clash in Bristol.
Two wickets in two balls by teenage spin sensation Amelia Kerr swung the momentum in the run chase, but an unbeaten 71 by Player of the Match Ellyse Perry proved the difference.
Earlier the WHITE FERNS scrapped their way to 219-9 from their 50 overs on a tricky pitch.
Captain Suzie Bates posted a polished half century in her 100th ODI, while Katie Perkins (52) and Erin Bermingham (35) put up a fine rearguard action.
Important
Australia only used the minimum five bowlers and that was all they needed as they continually picked up wickets. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the WHITE FERNS were only able to post one 50 run partnership as any momentum was stifled by regular breakthroughs.
Memorable Moment
Amelia Kerr's 34th over double strike will live long in the memory. With the game getting away from the WHITE FERNS, the 16-year-old stepped up. She first removed the best batter in the world, Meg Lanning caught behind for 48, with a sharp turning delivery that dipped late. Next ball she floated up a perfectly disguised googly which ripped back through the defence of Elyse Villani and took the top of off stump #epic
Key Players
Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry stood tall for Australia in a nervy run chase. They turned the strike over nicely against some quality bowling and made sure their middle order wasn't exposed. Big players win big games and that was the case on this occasion.
