Lanning guides Australia to victory

A Meg Lanning century has guided Australia to a four wicket victory in the second Rose Bowl ODI at Allan Border Field.

Scorecard

Lanning scored an unbeaten 101* bringing up the milestone with the final shot of Australia’s chase.

Rachael Haynes (82) also proved hard to bowl to for the visitors, WHITE FERNS skipper Sophie Devine finally accounting for her in the 27th over.

Melie Kerr gave the Kiwis some hope, removing Sophie Molineux and Ash Gardner in consecutive balls but ultimately it was Lanning that proved the thorn in New Zealand’s side.

Batting first, the WHITE FERNS put on 252/9 from their 50 overs, headlined by a 93-run stand from Sophie Devine (79) and Amy Satterthwaite (69).

Devine and Nat Dodd (34) were excellent at the top of the innings, the pair putting on 75 for the first wicket.

Late cameos from Katey Martin (26 off 14) and Maddy Green (21 off 13) gave the final overs some impetus and pushed the total past 250.
