The WHITE FERNS have continued their charge up the ICC Women’s World Cup points table, after registering another convincing victory in Taunton.
Career best figures by young pace bowler Hannah Rowe and a whirlwind 93 by Sophie Devine, ensured a dominant eight wicket win over Pakistan on Saturday.
The victory sees Suzie Bates’ side climb to third on the World Cup ladder on seven points, a single point behind India and Australia.
Player of the Match
20-year-old Palmerston North pace bowler Hannah Rowe well and truly grabbed her first chance of the World Cup. Six feet tall with Rapunzel like long blonde hair, Rowe cuts an unmistakable figure as she bounds into the crease. She bowled full, straight and swung the ball on Saturday - a combination which had her within millimetres of a hat-trick. What a day out for the likeable farm girl, who had her family and a couple of flatmates in the stands supporting her!
World Record
Sophie Devine was at her brutal best in at the County Ground, Taunton. Her immense power and timing saw her strike a women's ODI record of nine sixes in a knock which would have easily broken the fastest women's ODI hundred record - had the required runs been greater. In the end she fell for 93 off 41 balls, with just two more runs required for victory. Her savage form will be a worrying sight for opposing teams later on in this tournament.
