In short
A century by Sophie Devine helped set up the WHITE FERNS opening ODI victory over Pakistan, but all the drama was reserved for the final ten overs of a thrilling run-chase in Sharjah.
Asked to open the batting, 28-year-old Devine produced a patient hundred which was the backbone of the visitor's 240-9 from their 50 overs.
Pakistan’s reply was always on track and they entered the final ten overs of the chase requiring 56 runs with six wickets still in hand.
However, the hosts appeared to get the speed wobbles, as the WHITE FERNS held their nerve to claim the final five wickets for just 15 runs and snuff out the run-chase with nine balls to go and nine runs still needed for victory.
The hectic finish featured two late run-outs and saw Amelia Kerr (2-36) bowling the crucial final overs, along with Holly Huddleston (2-32) and off-spinner Leigh Kasperek (2-35).
As it happened...
