Berkley Normal Middle School has made it to the finals for the MILO Cup & MILO Shield Cricket Tournaments to be played on December 2 and 3 in Palmerston North.
As a tournament first Berkley is the only school to have both a girls and boys cricket team make it through to the prestigious finals competition.
Starting in the Northern region, Berkley Normal Middle School fought hard in the North Island round robin games. In a close match both, the boys and girls cricket teams defeated Tauranga Intermediate in the playoffs to win a spot in the finals.
The MILO Cup (boys) and MILO Shield (girls) involve 252 primary and intermediate schools from around the country. With over 3000 children competing in the national cricket tournament it is a great achievement to have made it through to the finals.
This year Nestlé, through its MILO sponsorship of junior cricket, has introduced a new initiative the MILO Next Generation BLACKCAPS Squad.
A selection panel, including a New Zealand Cricket (NZC) representative, will choose 12 outstanding players from the MILO Cup and MILO Shield finals tournament that will be flown to Christchurch to visit the NZC High Performance Centre.
Nestlé New Zealand’s MILO brand has been supporting junior cricket in New Zealand since 1986.
