It's not quite the Indian Premier League (IPL), but it's certianly a start.
Christchurch Metro Cricket (CMCA) in partnership with the Christchurch Multicultural Council (CMC) have just successfuly delivered the inaugural Christchurch Ethnic Cricket Festival.
The event had been 18 months in the making and followed on from the success of Cricket Wanganui's similar Ethnic Cricket initiative.
Over three Sundays at Hagley Park, team's representing India, Nepal and Sri Lanka competed in a series of Twenty20s.

CMCA General Manager Neil Harvey declared the inaguaral competion a success and hoped it would be even bigger next year.
"The reason behind the competition was to engage with an increasingly diverse population in Christchurch and ultimately allow the opportunities for all players to participate with local cricket clubs in a more formal level should they enjoy this competition.
"Our partnership with the Christchurch Multicultural Council, headed by Surinder Tandon, has been a great help in spreading the word."
"We aim to grow it further next year by exploring other funding avenues and by trying to partner with the other less formal competitions in the area."
