Cricket and cupcakes

The Weston School Girls’ Cricket team is a talented bunch, both on and off the field.

The small Primary School located just outside of Oamaru have qualified for the the National Primary School Shield for the first time, having beaten Arrowtown Primary in the Otago final.

Their work to make it to the Finals, which will be held in Lincoln come November, hasn’t stopped there though.

The team have got creative in their efforts to raise funds for the tournament, selling some delicious looking cupcakes!

The impressively designed sweet treats were a big hit, raising $450 for their journey. Being such a big hit, Weston plans to put the aprons back on and hold another sale in a few months.

The New Zealand Cricket offices will certainly be looking to put an order in!

Joining Weston in the Finals in Lincoln will be Havelock North Intermediate School from Central Districts, Tauranga Intermediate School from Northern Districts and Raroa Normal Intermediate School from Wellington.

Canterbury and Auckland are still yet to confirm their finalists.
