Eric Tindill, the world’s oldest surviving Test cricketer and oldest living All Black, celebrated his 99th birthday in Wellington today.
New Zealand Cricket Chairman Alan Isaac was on hand to present Mr Tindill with a special gift – a bat signed by members of the BLACKCAPS.
Mr Tindill played five Tests for New Zealand between 1937 and 1947 as a batsman and wicketkeeper.
In the winter code, he turned out for the All Blacks from 1935 to 1938, touring both England and Australia.
Alan Isaac said Mr Tindill had a special place in New Zealand sporting history as he also went on to be a Test umpire in cricket, and an international ruby referee.
