Maddy Green and Katie Perkins to lead Auckland Hearts

Two WHITE FERNS will fill the captaincy roles for the Auckland Hearts this season with Maddy Green announced captain and Katie Perkins vice-captain.

The pair boast over 100 international matches between them, experience that will help in leading the Hearts for their 2017/18 campaign.
“It’s an honour to lead the girls this season,” says Green.

“I have some big shoes to fill with Vic leaving but there’s plenty of senior players in the team to help me and I’m looking forward to the challenge,” she says.

And what about working with team mate Perkins?

“Obviously Perky is a very experienced player and it will be great to have her in the vice captaincy role to bounce some ideas off this season,” says Green.

Hearts Coach Dean Flyger calls the appointments a “new beginning” and has full confidence in Green and Perkins to fulfil the leadership roles.

“They are the best people for the positions. They will work well together,” Flyger says.

“We are looking for a step up in performances and if the leadership can add to that, then that’s great!”
