Mohammad Yousuf has been given Pakistan's captaincy duties ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy after Younis Khan refused an earlier offer.
Yousuf will temporarily assume the mantle in the absence of incumbent skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq, who is serving a four-game ban for bringing the sport of cricket into disrepute.
Younis was the Pakistan Cricket Board's first choice as Inzamam's replacement but he shocked media and his coach Bob Woolmer at a news conference earlier in the week when he said he refused to be a 'dummy captain'.
According to the BBC, Younis may face disciplinary action for his public outburst, however, he is still expected to take part in the Champions Trophy.
"We don't think this is the way to do things," said cricket board director of operations Saleem Altaf.
"If he had any problems he should have discussed it with us first."
"We will talk to Younis about his behaviour."
Abdul Razzaq has been named as the vice-captain for the Champions Trophy, which commences this weekend.
Pakistan kick-starts its campaign on October 17 against either Sri Lanka or the West Indies, depending on results from qualification.
