The New Zealand Cricket Women’s National Development Tournament, one of the major showcases for talented cricketers in the country, commences on December 17.
All six Major Associations are represented Ilam Playing Fields, Christchurch, in a tournament which Auckland and Canterbury shared in 2004.
The National Development Tournament has been part of NZC's playing programme for the last three seasons, having replaced the Under-21 tournament.
Associations are able to select players of any age who they consider to be progressing in the game, but have not yet played in the State League.
"This level of the game is about providing a playing experience for players just below State League or some who have had limited State League experience but have yet to perform with consistency at that level,” said NZC's Women's Cricket Manager Catherine Campbell.
“As in past years, the tournament is likely to see the emergence of some talented players who will one day go on to be White Ferns and that is always exciting.”
The week-long tournament involves each team playing each other once in a 50-over match. On the final day, December 23, play-offs determine the overall winner.
Daily updates from the tournament are available from www.nzcricket.co.nz.
