Defending champions New Plymouth Girls High School had a comprehensive seven-wicket win over hometown school Marian College at Ilam.
Kate Broadmore had a fine double with 3/19, helping dismiss Marian College for 64 in the 35th over, and scoring an unbeaten 24 to help NPGHS achieve victory within 19 overs.
In the other Group A match, Westlake Girls High School convincingly beat Tauranga Girls College.
Batting first, Westlake scored 188 for five from 40 overs, Courtney Manning unbeaten on 59. Lauren Wylie was the more successful of the Tauranga bowlers with two for 28.
Jo Perkins took four for 27 and Katharine Hebden three for 16 as Tauranga was dismissed for 98 in 26 overs.
Havelock North High School, playing in their first NZCT finals, scored a fine win over Otago Girls High School in Group B.
Havelock posted 124 first knock, with Amy Foster contributing, Sam Guillen 22 and Penny-Rose Wiggins 21.
Otago was dismissed for 48 in 23 overs, with Sally Hensman (3/3) and Sanika Rangnekar (2/9) doing the damage.
Whangarei Girls High School scored an emphatic victory over Wellington Girls College thanks to a fine team effort and an excellent all round performance by Kelsey Dunn.
Dunn’s 68 was the top score in the Northlanders’ 198 for six.
Wellington Girls College was dismissed for 82 in the 24th over with Dunn taking 3/12 and Sam Morgan 4/10.
Kate Clayton showed good form for Wellington Girls College with 31.
