New Zealand Over 60’s win the first one day test against the visiting Australians played at the Queenstown Events Centre on Sunday.
In their 50 overs NZ scored 259/4 with Graeme Inglis 65 retired, Hugh Wright 40, Bevan Guthrie 38 no, Paul Facoory 27, Robbie Deans 26, Murray Brown 24no and Lindsay Hewitson 17. The pick of the Australian bowlers was M Harrison with 1/22 and P McDonald 1/33.
In reply Australia got to 241/9 in their 50 overs. Good bowling from Robbie Deans 2/19, Graeme Inglis 2/31, Hamish Wright 3/39, Bob Masefield 1/27, Tony Gray 1/41 and Gus Klein 0/30 kept the Australians behind the run rate with wickets falling at regular intervals. The Australian captain Greg Quinn batting at number 4 held the Australian innings together with 76 but once he fell the game was NZ’s.

The next Match is at the Willows in Christchurch on Wednesday is against a NZ selection and then on Sunday 3rd March the second 50 over test is at Anderson Park in Wellington.
