New Zealand Under-19 team to play in Tri-Series | Team named

The New Zealand Under-19 team will head to Darwin next month to play in a One-Day Tri-Series against Australia and India.

A squad of 15 will travel across the ditch on June 24 to play seven matches in 19 days. They are scheduled to face Northern Territory in a warm-up game June 27, before playing their first round-robin match of the Tri-Series against Australia three days later.

The teams all face each other twice, before the resulting top two sides square-off in a final and third place faces Northern Territory on July 12. New Zealand will also take on Papua New Guinea in a friendly on July 2.

The squad features two changes from the side which recently took on Australia in Lincoln, with Alec Hodgson from Otago and Graeme Tyron from Central Districts coming in.

NZC General Manager National Selection Kim Littlejohn said: “The team remains largely unchanged from the side which recently played Australia in Lincoln and gives these players a great opportunity to build on the progress they’ve made.

“It’s great to be able to test yourself playing against the best in the world and that’s what we’ll be doing at this event. Competitions like this put the team in good stead ahead of the Under-19 World Cup next year and gives these players valuable experience.”
