The NZ Over 60’s were delighted to chase down the Australian target and take out the 3 match ODI series against the visiting Australian Over 60’s at the Auckland University ground on Sunday.
The NZ captain Murray Brown won the toss and put Australia in to bat with instant reward with a wicket from the first ball from Gus Klein. The Australians struggled through out their innings with excellent bowling and fielding from the NZer’s on a green wicket. Australia were all out for 129 from the last ball of the 50 overs with Graeme Inglis taking 3/17, Gus Klein 2/23 and Tony Gray 2/28. For the Australians K Lanigan scored 32, G Richardson 29 and G Quinn 20.
New Zealand also had some difficulty when they batted with excellent catching from the Australians keeping them in the match but with good batting from Graeme Inglis 36 in the middle of the innings and an eight wicket unbroken partnership of 29 from Robbie Deans 34no and Roger Harvey 10no the NZer’s got up in the 48th over to win being 130/8 at the finish.
New Zealand took out the first ODI in Queenstown, lost the second in Wellington and with this win in Auckland won the series.
The New Zealand squad will now rest on their laurels until November when they travel to Adelaide to play in the Australian State Over 60’s Championships.
