Tauranga Intermediate School sit atop of the NZC Cup points table after two convincing wins at the finals in New Plymouth on day one. In the Shield competition Heaton Intermediate are in control having won both of their opening encounters.
An all-round effort with the bat helped Tauranga to chase down John McGlashan College’s 124 first up. They followed that up with a 24 run win over Hutt International Boys’ School, after 57 from Mikaere Leef and 49 from Taylor Kite giving them an unassailable total of 129. A win against Medbury tomorrow will ensure them the Cup, with Hutt International and John McGlashan chasing them with one win each.
In the Shield, Heaton cruised to a pair of victories on the back of the brilliant all-round talents of Kirran Maynard. She brought up scores of 26 and 62 and took nine wickets, including figures of six for 13 against Tai Tapu School. The highest individual score of the day came from Aimee Brown, who posted 84 from 56 deliveries to lead Heaton to 190 for three in the same match. A win against Auckland Normal Intermediate would secure them the Shield.
