Warm welcome back for Cairns

John Bracewell has welcomed veteran BLACKCAPS all-rounder Chris Cairns back to the fold.

Cairns, who boasts over 200 One-Day International appearances, returns to the BLACKCAPS squad for their Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series against Australia.

And the coach exclusively told of the virtues he brings to the side.

“Obviously he gives vast experience,” said Bracewell. “When he's on his game, he gives mana to the group. He carries good mana within the group.

“And I think he also brings skill and athleticism.”

Cairns’ addition to the side enhances the BLACKCAPS; a team who already know each other’s games inside out.

Most of the side have toured the world with each other and their coach believes a well-practised formula is a crucial factor.

He added: “Experience counts for a lot in international cricket, especially when you're on the road day in, day out; the ability to produce on tour is an extremely stressful business that takes it toll.

“Guys who have that ability to lead from the front are essential in any unit the most consistent sides are the ones that are consistently picked, which gives consistent performance.”
