Hutt International Boys’ School 261 all out (R Ravindra 64, J Tashkoff 51, Z Akhter 4-47) beat Palmerston North Boys’ High School 147 all out (B Rowe 27*, A Kanuparthi 3-23) by 114 runs
Hutt International Boys’ School had the chance to be crowned champions as they took on Palmerston North Boys’ High School on Bert Sutcliffe Oval and decided to bat first on the final day of battle for the 2015 New Zealand Secondary School Boys' First XI crown.
Rachin Ravindra continue his impressive late form with the top score for his side, 64 runs, and Jesse Tashkoff, who also had an impressive tournament, batted well making 51.
Zoheb Akhter was the best of the bowlers for Palmerston North Boys’ with impressive figures of 4-47.
Hutt International followed up their batting innings with a tight display of bowling, giving Palmerston North Boys’ little to work with.
Akansh Kanuparthi picked up 3-23 to help his side to the victory they were craving by 114 runs.
Hutt International’s win crowned them as national Secondary School Boys’ First XI Cup champions for the first time in the 26-year history of the Cup, and it’s the first time in 14 years that a Wellington School has won the title.
Hutt International player Rachin Ravindra was awarded player of the tournament for his performances with both bat and ball.
Rachin scored 208 runs in five games at an average of 41.60. He had a bowling economy rate of 3.11 and took two catches over the tournament.
It was a very successful year for Wellington with Tawa College crowned NZCT Secondary School Girls Champions in the same week with an impressive unbeaten run of five from five, and Amelia Kerr (Tawa College) named Player of the Tournament for the second year in a row.
