The 2016/17 community cricket season was celebrated at the ANZ New Zealand Cricket Awards recently, with several very worthy winners given the appreciation they deserve.

Sir Jack Newman Award: Tony Edwards

Outstanding Contribution to Cricket: Gordon Dry
Gordon has been instrumental is building Wellington’s Eastern Suburbs Cricket Club from 12 adult teams to 25, whilst helping achieve 14 Pearce Cup Championships in the past 16 seasons. Click here for more information.

Secondary School Girls’ Young Cricketer of the Year: Bella James
Bella led St Hilda’s Collegiate to their first NZCT Secondary Schools Girls title. She led from the front, ending the tournament as the top run-scorer with 191 runs at 38.2. Click here for more information.

Club of the Year: Red Star Cricket Club
In the space of seven years, Red Star Cricket Club has gone from having no junior set-up, to boasting 150 junior cricket participants. They have transformed themselves into one of the largest sporting clubs in the Wairarapa. Click here for more information.
